Hymn, ‘Fairest Lord Jesus’

This old, old hymn still has power to move us.

I like to post a hymn here every Sunday morning.

If you have a favorite hymn, or a couple of favorites, that you’d like to see me post, don’t be bashful–tell me about it. Suggestions are more than welcome.

  1. I love that you post these on Sundays, and I always check them out. I will admit that I didn’t grow up listening to these old hymns, but my grandparents did and loved them. Now that they are gone, the old hymns remind me of my grandparents, and of the faith and strength of their generation which is passing all too quickly. Chris Rice made a whole album of hymns, and they are so beautifully done, maybe he will inspire new love for them among younger Christians. I particularly like “Before the Throne of God Above” (from 1863). Here is a link to the Chris Rice version on YouTube, with all the amazing harmonies there in full. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auEw_Ui71oc
I wonder what this would have sounded like in my grandparents’ church back when they were young.

    1. Thanks for sending me next Sunday’s hymn (and don’t let me forget to post it).
I was blessed in that my whole extended family made sure the children knew who their Savior is. Going to college put me on a bad detour that lasted some 30 years: but the Good Shepherd found this lost sheep and brought him back. I think my mother and father, grandparents, aunts and uncles for giving me a firm foundation in the faith.
