Permit me this small self-indulgence.
A reproduction of this painting–Swan Lake, by Konrad Muller-Kurzwelly, a 19th century German landscape artist–used to hang in my family’s living room for as long as I can remember. And I loved it! I loved to look at it and imagine myself going into the painting, I guess to feed the swans. It always gave me a deep sense of peace.
I’m posting it here in case I should never find it again.

We had a photograph (my dad, who was a photographer, took the picture, enlarged and developed it) that hung above our sofa in our family room. It was similar – he had taken it at Letchworth Park in the fall where the stream went through. I knew the place because my parents would bring us there as children and we always loved it there.

The original went at auction in 2004 for about 400 $US. The auction house was Penney’s (or Penny’s?) in Canada, which has since gone bust.

Now that’s a very nice offer, and it warms my heart to read it. But before I say anything more, I’ll have to make sure it’s all right with my wife: we don’t have a lot of space in this apartment, and as I recall it, it was a rather large picture. Please thank your mother-in-law for me.

My parents had this painting hanging in our living room when I was growing up. I missed a chance to buy it yesterday. I am so mad at myself. I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get one.
