‘Say, Say, O Playmate’

Just to lighten things up a little, here’s a song my mother used to sing to me when I was a very young child. Her lyrics went like this:

I’m sorry, playmate, I cannot play with you

My dolly has the flu, whatever shall we do?

Shout down my rain barrel, slide down my cellar door

And we’ll be jolly friends forevermore!

  1. What fun! I remember my mom, gramma and aunts singing this to us when we were children 🙂 Thanks for that little trip down memory lane, Lee.

  2. Wow! Me too. My mother also sang this one to us, and then she insisted that we sing it too. She was an excellent pianist, and she and two sisters
sang on the radio in the bigger town. They did a lot of singing in churches,
at all kinds of gatherings. Unfortunately, I did not inherit their beautiful voices, but I have always sung to myself.
