I shy away from conspiracy theories, and from self-anointed prophets who come up with flashy interpretations of Biblical prophecies.
So when I read yesterday that the New World Order, NWO to fans, is fixing to nuke New York to stop tonight’s presidential debate ( http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2016/09/nwo-to-nuke-new-york-before-debate-3416801.html ), it sort of made my head come to a point. This prophecy, we are told, comes from “a Kenyan lady” who got it directly from God.
Just before Our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, after His resurrection from the dead, some of the disciples asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” As if this were all about setting up Israel with a king again: maybe they weren’t paying much attention to the Gospel.
And Jesus answered, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father hath put in His own power” (Acts 1:7).
What part of “It is not for you to know” don’t some people understand?
So tonight will come and go without New York City being blown off the map, and tomorrow it’ll be another conspiracy, another prophecy, etc., etc.
How many times did the Lord have to say that His return would take the whole world by surprise, and that we must “watch”–“What I say unto you, I say unto all: Watch” ( Mark 13:37)–and that we are to be found at our posts, performing our duties like good servants, when He finally does return–“like a thief in the night” ( I Thessalonians 5:2).
We can’t help wondering exactly when that time will be, and trying to figure it out by studying the Bible’s many prophecies.
But I think we have to find more productive ways to “occupy until I come” ( Luke 19:13).
Many of my relatives, aunts, uncles and even one parent, believed that Armageddon was nigh. Just for the record, I believe that it is coming and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen soon but . . . I DO NOT KNOW when it will happen. If that knowledge was not known by even the son of the True God there is ZERO chance that I will second guess God and successfully know when His time to act will happen.
Since 1834, when William Miller published his theories regarding the timing of the second coming, there have been efforts to calculate the timing based upon interpretation of the timeline of the bible and by attempting to affix calendar dates to biblical time periods such as “the last days” or the “time of the nations being fulfilled”. Such efforts are absolutely wasted effort.
Salvation is not a trivia contest, it is centered on Jesus Christ and we should accept the advice we have received from that source. He told us in Matthew 24.44: So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
We are not going to outsmart God and we are not going to outsmart what is contained in His inspired word. We were told that when we see all of the signs happening at once that will be significant and I believe that we are at the point where that is happening; but even that information can’t be used to predict specific events or to establish firm dates.
The bible tells us that our faith in Christ as our Savior is essential to our deliverance. FAITH . . . not a timeline calibrated to our calendar. I want deliverance as soon as possible; but the most monumental event in human history is unlikely to be scheduled to coincide with my wishes or convenience. This is about not only the salvation of individuals; it is about the deliverance of the human race and offering salvation to as many people as are willing to accept God’s terms for salvation; and those terms are very generous in the favor of fallen humans.
