The Screwtape Emails

In The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis imagined a correspondence between a supervising devil in Hell and an apprentice devil working in our world.

Here in real life, we have this: an email to John Podesta, Clinton campaign chairman, from operative Bill Ivey, with the–ahem!–“Center for American Progress.” If you call going down the pipe progress.

No need here to editorialize. I’ll just quote the relevant passage. ( )

We’ve all been quite content to demean government, drop civics, and in general conspire [his word, not mine] to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry. The unawareness remains strong [“Strong”?] but compliance is obviously fading rapidly. This problem demands some serious thinking…

And there you have it, my fellow deplorables. If this is how you want your country to be run, just allow these people to capture the White House.

  1. Ivey: “I fear we’re all now trying to navigate a set of forces [FORCES] that cannot be simply explained or fully understood, so it is and will remain interesting.” Forces – he doesn’t know it, but the “forces” are the Hands of God in this election. My first reaction to his equating “unawareness” to a “fading compliance” was a contradiction in terms. However, thinking about the many people who HAVE been enlightened to the full extent of the Clintons’ corruption, but continue to remain compliant, there is, in fact, a bit of truth in it.

Liked the Bob Hope clip. I also watched the Archie Bunker clip that was the next video. He’s portrayed as a racist, but he’s no dummy.
