Couldn’t resist this! Tales of the Vikings was one of my super-favorite shows when I was ten years old, especially in the summertime, when there was still enough light outside to let you and your friends play “Vikings” while inspired by this rousing theme song. True, we didn’t have any ships, not even an unused rowboat in the neighborhood. But a garbage can led make a fine shield, and there were always sticks for swords.
I suppose it wasn’t the best idea ever, to make heroes out of men whose occupation was robbing and looting other people’s villages. They have another name for that now, and only the Democrat Party praises those who do it.
And no, none of us ever put his eye out with a stick.
Oh, yes, I remember the neighborhood boys playing games like that, with the garbage can lids and one or two even had play swords that their dad
carved out of throw away lumber. Looked kinda fun, but we girls were not invited, which was just fine with me.
Oh, you don’t know what you missed! We always let the girls play boys’ games with us, if they had a mind to. The few who did have a mind to were pretty good at those games.
If I had a 10-year-old granddaughter, I’d tell her stories she’d remember!
Yep, I can imagine. A story teller like you would be heaven to a grandkid.
My uncle Ed and uncle John were pretty good, but they could never have come up with you.
BTW, I have a degree in Politicial Science with my specialty in… would you believe it? The politics of the Viking Age.
Wow, that is interesting. Are you of the lineage?
Just one Swedish soldier among my ancestors, from back in the Thirty Years War, in which he played a not very courageous part. Of course, I could always self-identify as Norse, my French surname notwithstanding. Then people would have to call me Sven or Olaf, or else get tabbed as haters.
