The latest college howler comes from Arizona State University, where students are being given credit for their final exams if they organize an “anti-Trump protest” instead of taking the test ( https://heatst.com/culture-wars/arizona-state-u-lets-students-organize-anti-trump-protest-instead-of-taking-final-exam/ ).
Not that it matters. The professor who’s doing this is a professor of “Global Politics of Human Rights.” Whatever the hell that is. “Hire me right away! I’ve got a degree in Global Politics of Human Rights!”
At least one Women and Gender Studies student–hey, can I please wake up now?–joined the protest, even though she wasn’t in the professor’s class.
Does even the least shred of doubt remain, that these colleges and universities are incontinently wasting time and money on a scale hitherto only seen in government? Is there any sane reason for continuing to pump public money into these institutions? Is there even any half-baked silly reason to continue to send young people there?
All rhetorical questions, of course.
I almost wonder what a final exam would look like, in Global Politics of Human Rights, and what kind of blather you would have to spew to pass it. But I’m not sure I’d be up to actually looking at it.
I estimate at least 90% of our country’s higher education is sheer waste and pure twaddle. Very little that is good can happen here until we get rid of it.
Any self-respecting nation would have already done so.
The only part of college that I respect anymore are the S.T.E.M. programs, but even those require indoctrination in all sorts of liberal subjects.
This brought to mind Matthew 23:23-28
23: Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24: Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

I wish the universities were in fact only a waste of time and money. I’m afraid they’ve developed into something much worse: a training ground for ignorant — and violent — followers of demagogues.
Every time I visit my former department’s web site and see what’s going on there, I breathe a sigh of relief that I retired in the nick of time. Then I castigate myself for being a coward, for not having stayed on and kept trying to hold the line against the barbarians.
It seems obvious that “higher education” means warehousing bodies, most of them uninhabited by minds, for use as SJWs and protesters whenever the Democrat Party has need of them.
Don’t be hard on yourself for living to fight another day. For the time being, a bunch of us can do it here.
I do understand–and, to a small extent, feel–the allure of a scholarly life. But they ain’t there to be scholars anymore, are they?
It would be a good thing if these institutions were cut back to what they ought to be.

I wonder why the public stands for this.
I have a guess: Revelation 12:12 “Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.” There seems to be an all out war against the family, worship of the Creator and decency.

My guess is that your guess is correct, Unknowable. Strong delusion is involved here, too.
There’s a sense that much of the world is deluded. I can remember seeing these attitudes even back in the late sixties, but now they are accepted as mainstream.
Any sense of morality and decency is attacked as if it were evil. There is no reasonableness, only a paper thin veneer of civility which vanishes the moment there is even the slightest disagreement.
The delusion, as mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2:11 “For this reason God will send upon them [k]a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false” certainly seems to fit.
I see this madness everywhere, and it seems to me that just under the surface, most people are aware that “something is not right” with the world, and those of us who study the Bible know what that is. The poor souls who have no knowledge of God and His ways, or the warnings He has written for us are just acting out of chaotic confusion.
I once saw three young men walking together in a store where I was shopping. One was waving his arms about, talking very loudly, saying things like; “my life is a mess, I am a mess, I don’t know which way to go, everything is chaos always…” and more along that line. His two companions were trying to calm him down, but it did no good.
Think for a moment what it must be like for someone totally ignorant of God’s existence or His instructions. These are mostly people who have been brainwashed beginning in grade school, hearing all about how the “universe evolved” and other such lying evil.
I am sorrowful for all who are in this sinking boat.
I was thinking along similar lines just today. Knowing that there is a judgement on the way can burden our emotions at time, but how much worse would it be to observe all of the tulmult in the world and have no idea of what is happening or why. The future of this fallen world is daunting, but when we see these things happening, we are to lift our heads and rejoice.
Most of us here have been around a while, and I’d venture to say that most of us have known the hope of the Bible, but now it appears to be coming to pass in our time. What an amazing thing, to be able to see these things occur and know that they were foretold nearly 2,000 years ago!
You’re so right, Erlene. Each night I pray for those who are going through life ignorant of God’s Word and have no idea why things are so chaotic and why they seem to feel a sense of helplessness and anxiety, going through the motions just trying to get by in life. And they think it will go on forever the way it is – ‘since the fathers fell asleep’. But tomorrow is promised to no one. I pray that the lost be found, the sleeping awaken and the backslidden return and repent.
Rereading this tonight and i find myself praying more and more that true understanding spreads to many people. There are a lot of deluded people out there and a lot of traditions being promoted. I pray that a simple and complete understanding will be available for all people, earthwide.
