My wife thinks I ought to tell you why Lee’s Tasteless Supper is so… tasteless. I am afraid the alibi will be more damaging than the accusation, but let’s see what happens if I follow her advice.
I only use salt on French fries or corn on the cob. I use black pepper on casseroles. That’s the only use I get out of seasonings.
I do like chopped onions, but as a single man I never learned to chop them properly.
I can’t stand tomatoes or any kind of cheese, so I would never add them to any dish that I meant to eat. Once when I was a very little boy, I was served some stewed tomatoes, which I had never seen before. When I asked what they were, Aunt Joan said they were leopard hearts. I could never abide the taste of a tomato after that. (Joan was still in her twenties at the time, so cut her some slack.)
Finally, I kind of liked my rice-and-hamburger dish just as it was. I didn’t think it was tasteless!
P.S.–Also never on my menu: catsup, mayonnaise, mustard, jam or jelly, vinegar, most cooked vegetables, and a few other things.
Now everybody’s going to think I’m crazy.
No garlic??? How can anyone cook without garlic??? 🙂
I think I’d have to add some salt and probably onions. Dried onion flakes are available at most stores, but the seasoning aisle is rarely visited by most bachelors. 🙂
Wow, Lee, methinks it’s probably a good thing Patty does the cooking. And if she’s anything like me, she could be hiding veggies in your food, which is what I have to do to Michael 🙂
I’m not fond of garlic (sometimes just a tad), but I do like seasonings – not spicy hot though! Onions and sweet peppers, mushrooms and lots of veggies!
For me, the mild green chille, diced, is the perfect vegetable. I don’t know how common it is in the eastern part of the country, but in the Southwest, a good pork green child can make or break a restaurant. I also order diced chiles in my omelets. They are not particularly hot, not to the point of burning your mouth or anything, just a pleasant flavor-adding vegetable and they are mild enough that you can fill up on them.
My first though, upon seeing the picture of Lee’s creation was: “Hey! That’d be good with a can of diced Ortegas in it.” 🙂
I like the mild Ortegas – in fact, I add a can when I make Picadillo 🙂 But hot peppers are out. Even Buffalo wings can’t tempt me into hot spicy food 🙂
Btw, those good pork green children in the Southwest must be pretty wild lol. Don’t you just love auto correct?!
Auto-correct will be the death of us.
I have seen some porky children, but none of them were green. 🙂
That’s a relief! You never know these days 🙂
Yep. Anything can happen in our day.
