A leftid named B. Davin has given my Bell Mountain a 1-star customer review on amazon.com because he doesn’t like one of my blog posts on the subject of the former president–which has nothing whatsoever to do with the merits of my book.
I was unable to figure out how to give amazon a reason for reporting this review as abuse, but I know that a few of you do know how to do this, and I’d appreciate your help. This person has acted out of pure spite, for a political reason, and I don’t want to see him get away with it.
I know it can be done, but I’m not sure how. Perhaps. Chalcedon could initiate a complaint.
This is reprehensible and must not be tolerated. I will go on Amazon and
see what I can do. Things get more incomprehensible each and every
day.
Thanks, Erlene–please let me know how you make out.
I can help with this. 🙂 Go to the book on Amazon and click on the Customer Reviews link. Find the offensive review (they are usually listed newest first on the far right side of the page). Below each individual review you will see: Was this review helpful to you?
Yes
No
Report abuse
Click the Report abuse link and tell Amazon the review was a personal insult against the author and has nothing to do with the book itself. They should remove it pretty quickly. I did it last time, so maybe this report should be under someone else’s name. Is this the same guy from before, or someone new?
I wasn’t able to do that, Allison. I clicked “report abuse” but couldn’t find any space where I could give a reason. I sort of remembered the procedure you followed, but when push came to shove, the thing mystified me and I failed to give a reason. I don’t even know if I’m explaining it coherently.
The culprit doesn’t seem to be the same one who did it last time, but you can see for yourself, if you want, his alleged Customer Review of Bell Mountain. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the book–just a way of trying to punish me for not sharing his indefensible views on politics.
Strange. I will try again in the morning unless someone else beats me to it.
I can’t find the one star review, so maybe you abuse report worked.
Greg, see my reply under my own comment.
The “review” is for Bell Mountain. I did as you asked – thanks weavingword, for the tip on how – and hopefully Amazon will act quickly to remove it.
Sorry, I was in a bit of a hurry, did not read properly. Greg, the review is not for a verified purchase. So you must go to one star reviews and select “all reviews” to see it.
This is the most frustrating thing I have run into yet. I went to amazon to look for the post, and they wound up telling me I needed to correct my spelling, no such author was available, no such book was listed, etc. and I was blocked in every way. Something really weird is going on. I have shopped amazon for years and they always knew me the moment I went on, now they never heard of me, my reading selections– nothing. Either this new computer has me flummoxed, or it is amazon that is mad at me because I dared order from a couple of other web sites recently. grrrrr
Patty says it’s your new computer, Erlene–the amazon computer doesn’t recognize your new computer. Insufficient information, etc. Would you like me to ask her how you can correct the problem? I’ll have to take notes because I won’t understand it.
AHA! I just made one more try, and behold! Everything went as smooth as silk. Wonders never cease. The report of abuse was posted, amazon thanked me, and that was that. What in thunder is going on!
Were you able to post a reason for your objection? That was what I wasn’t able to do.
I just sent in an abuse report, and it did allow me to give a reason. Hopefully they will take it down soon.
Thanks so much, Weavingword. I’ll check again later, and let you know what happened.
I went and clicked it THUMBS DOWN, and then REPORTED ABUSE, and I entered this reason: Review not related to the book, personal beef
Which happens to be one of their rules, your review MUST be related to the product.
I went and looked again — if seven or eight folks click THUMBS DOWN and also REPORT ABUSE for not reviewing the product, but posting a personal beef, they will remove it.
My best seller (Christian thriller) has 108 reviews, and 95% are 5 stars. There are 5 atheists who gave it 1-stars, and their reviews even say stuff like, “why do you demonize vampires?” LOL. So I can’t report those, they are hating my book. Lee’s hater is attacking him outside of literature, and that needs to be removed!
Thanks, Ellen–I’ll report here when and if the dishonest and spiteful non-review is removed.
Betcha they’d take it down if it was a Confederate statue.
YEP!
