Well, here’s hoping! Two WordPress engineers worked on this blog throughout the afternoon, and it looks like they’ve accomplished some good things.
The news links are working now.
My tags and categories have been restored.
The referrals to related posts have been restored, so now I have a reasonable hope of finding stuff.
The only thing that seems to have gone wrong is that the comments from the last two days have gotten all mixed up, with some of them just plain deleted. If new comments come in all right, I can let that pass. Send me a few comments tonight, folks, so I can see if things are working properly.
And if all those problems come back again, I shall be very much put out.

BTW, I went to my WordPress control panel and resubscribed so now I get notifications of new posts once again. I never unsubscribed, but that’s the sort of detail programmers don’t care about.

For some reason, these tech companies are obsessed with fixing things which aren’t actually broken. Then, whatever they fixed ends up badly broken.
Maybe your computer is possessed. Should it be re-possessed? Just a thought.

I’ve noticed that a couple of posts that I replied to (including “How Not to Write Dialogue”) have lost my comments. But I can’t quite remember all my apparently-not-so-deathless prose enough to repost it, so alas it’s all lost, lost, lost. (Weep.) Naetheless, I suspect the world will survive without it. 🙂

A lot of reader comments from the past few days have either disappeared or gotten all mixed up since WordPress fixed the other problems. I remember the comment that you mentioned, and it’s not there anymore. I don’t know how that happened. I’ll have to watch the comments closely for a while to see if things are all right now. So far, no problem with anything posted since yesterday afternoon.
If the same problems come back, maybe that’s your version of “a thorn in the flesh” (messengers of Satan).
