Liberal Christians–an oxymoron, in my view, on a par with land-dwelling trout–always seek this world’s approval and always sacrifice the integrity of God’s Word to get it.
Here’s something I wasn’t aware of until I found it mentioned today in the latest issue of Biblical Archaeology Review. “Contemporary interpreters” have been adding their own words to the Holy Scriptures–to make God’s Word conform to the world and lose its power to transform the world.
Galatians 3:28 says, “In Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, neither slave nor free, nor male and female.” All are one in Christ: all are equal before the cross.
But “contemporary interpreters,” including “some Christians who support gender neutrality and transgenderism”–what kind of “Christians” are those–have been adding to that verse. In doing so, they try to make the Word of God bear false witness against the speaker, God Himself. The Bible condemns homosexual practice in no uncertain terms. It is a sin. Period. It is as if they were to insist that God would bless idolatry.
Corrupting the Scripture is surely a worse sin than homosexual acting-out.
The Law, in the Old Testament, requires false prophets to be put to death.
But we give them power and prestige.
O Lord! Remember that these things are done without our consent, against our will, and over our objections. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Another great, great article! I’ve been noticing more and more people who call themselves Christian but continue to bear false witness in words and deeds. It started very heavily about 2 weeks ago, making this article so appropriate and timely. ‘Tis the season?
it’s one thing to paraphrase, it’s completely another thing to add or change something. That is straight apostasy. Revelation warns about adding and taking away from that book, which I think we can infer to be true of the rest of the Bible. I would hate to be them on judgment day.
“And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book.
And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book. (Rev 22:18-19)”
Years ago, I was at a church bible study group and one person made a comment where they read a scripture, but they “corrected” it to reflect their version of gender equality. It struck me that this person was correcting God. That was one of the last times I attended and coincided with my decision to look carefully at the way my church was going about things. Since that time, persons whom are still at least tangentially affiliated have told me that utter apostasy has become evermore prevalent. My question is; why do they remain affiliated?
And then there’s goddess worship, in the church…
That’s actually not far from what was happening.
The Jehovah Witness’ Bible is a good example of changing God’s Word.
