All right, why do they do it–cats wedging themselves into really small spaces? Why do they stick their heads into things they can’t get out of? There’s got to be a neo-Darwinian just-so story to explain it. Although I favor the notion that cats do these things for the same reason people do them: it seems like a good idea at the time.
Sometimes small spaces might feel secure to them, but some of these kitties were, I think, set up by their people, possibly with treats. Some, though, are totally inexplicable 🙂
They are such curious creatures, I guess they just want to see what it is all about. If you see a box, get in it.
I think that says it all. I’ve yet to see a cat that won’t sit in a box when given the opportunity. 🙂

As usual this brought smiles to my face! Maybe it is the instinct programmed into the cat’s DNA for burrowing into the holes of small rodents, etc. that makes boxes and small places irresistible to them.
