We have the biggest and costliest public “education” system in world history–and what have we got to show for it?
Illiterates.
Pew Research says one in four Americans didn’t read a single book last year. In this video segment, it’s more like four out of four.

All right, sure, we understand–no one has ever done a man-in-the-street interview that makes the man or woman in the street look smart. And everybody who doesn’t respond like a ninny winds up on the cutting room floor.
But I do know people who’ve finished both high school and college and never read a book.
For a glimpse of where this is headed:
That astounds me. I live my life reading. In my profession, reading is almost as essential as breathing.
We have more knowledge available to us now than anytime in history, but people are not getting smarter. I think it’s because we are an entertainment oriented society. Before all the distractions we have today, but would read more because there was not much else to do.
“[M]any shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Daniel 12:4
But it doesn’t appear to be knowledge that will do us any good.”
I think that relates to knowledge of scripture and of the True God. There are a lot of things being discovered, including some archaeological discoveries which allow us to increase our knowledge of the Bible. I have the feeling that this will happen more and more as time goes on.
I would take wisdom over knowledge any day.
Every 50-60 books I read I look back and think “man, I’ve grown in stretching my mind” whether spiritually, intellectually or mentally. What a sad state of country to be in a place where books are economically affordable compared to other parts of the world and where one can have library resources and even free books to read for the low low cost of writing a review…I’m shaking my head.
I’ve read where almost 50% of college grads never read another book. The percentage of high school grads is even higher. I find non-book reading people boring.
It’s because they don’t know anything that’s more than two or three weeks old.
