There were a lot of ground sloths, once upon a time. They were all big, and the biggest one, Megatherium, was bigger than an elephant. Artists used to show them being preyed on by saber-toothed cats, but that was before we learned that Megatherium was virtually immune to attack by anything short of an anti-tank gun.
The sloths of today seem to be a favorite pet in the imaginations of many. They’re awfully cute as young-uns but I’m not so sure I’d want one after they’ve grown up.
It’s not like you’d have to take them for a lot of walks…
Excellent point – but it applies to birds and cats too, which may be better choices unless you live in a place where there are lots of trees 🙂
