Comment Contest: Amended!

I’ve decided to change the comment contest.

We have 32,208 comments so far, and I first set the goal at 35,000. But after thinking it over for a couple of days, that looks like a not-so-hot idea.

So the goal is now set at 33,000. Whoever posts Comment No. 33,000 wins an autographed copy of one of my books. That’s less than 800 to go, folks–piece of cake.

Anyone can enter, and if you’ve won already, well, you can win again. All comments are eligible, except: comments which abuse anyone else on this site; comments containing blasphemy or profanity, no f-bombs allowed; commercials thinly disguised as comments (don’t even think about it); or comments simply too inane to publish. Other than the above, anything goes.

This should only take two weeks or so–right? Please prove me right, I’ll appreciate it.

  1. Hello Mr. Duigon,
I was wondering, when you first started your blog how did you get people to start coming to it?
I just started a blog for my business in April and I just don’t know how to get people to come to it.
    Thanks!
    Elijah
P.S. I am not trying to advertise in anyway, I’m just looking for tips.

    1. The first people to visit my blog were people who already knew me, and they got others to come.
I have no experience blogging for customers, unless you want to count my constant hope that people who like this blog just might try my books. I wish that would happen more often!
So all I really know about is “content” blogs, like mine. A few tips:
*Tag your posts so that they appear on search engines: for instance, my “gigantic lizard” post today is tagged “reptile pets”.
*Try to provide content that will make people want to read more, and recommend it to their friends.
*The more you post, the more readers you get.
*Be patient. It took seven or eight years for my blog to grow to what it is now. That was a lot of work.
      I hope this helps, Elijah.

    2. Yes, I make and sell soy wax candles. I mainly sell them in local stores, but I am trying to crack into large retailers (metaphorically speaking) so that I can eventually buy my fist house debt-free. The reason for the blog is just to get individuals to purchase candles from me, as I try to get retailers interested.
