Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the only pet mentioned in the Bible was the poor man’s little ewe lamb, in Nathan’s parable to David, which “was unto him as a daughter” (2 Samuel 12: 1-7). And of course the story wouldn’t have made any sense unless people in ancient Israel sometimes kept a favorite lamb as a pet.
I’ve never had a little lamb, but it’s easy to see the appeal. I wonder if they can be housebroken.
When I was growing up, a neighbor boy had a pet lamb. I don’t remember many details but do recall that it was sweet natured and cute as heck.
Ungulates are grazers and I don’t think they are naturally inclined towards being housebroken. On the other hand, frisky animals with hooves can break things inside the home very easily. As sweet as lambs are, they are not particularly good as inside pets. Their life is a simple one of grazing, frolicking and the occasional nap.
According to von Klausewitz (I think it was him, but don’t quote me), bison actually make very good house pets, except for when they insist on getting into bed with you.
That could be problematic. Then there’s the odor.
I’ve seen a video of a pet buffalo, so why not a lamb.
Think of your cats. Would they get on with a lamb?
