When Elisha Saw God’s Army

[B]ehold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his [Elisha’s] servant said unto him, Alas, my master! How shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.

And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.  –2 Kings 6:17-18

If I could trade places with anyone in the Bible, and then come back here to tell about it, I would trade with Elisha’s servant–when God permitted him to see the heavenly host that surrounded the army of the enemy, to destroy it. What I wouldn’t give to have seen that!

God’s people today are surrounded by enemies–the Far Left, Hollywood, the nooze media, atheism, Islam, the teachers’ unions: enemies who would gleefully destroy us. We can see them everywhere.

What we can’t see, because it’s spiritual, is God’s army. If Elisha were were to show it to us, would we even be able to believe our eyes? Would we?

Believe the Bible: because our eyes and ears are not enough. Believe God’s word.

  1. That is an account that has always fascinated me, and likewise, the battle between Elijah and the prophets of Baal.

  2. The Heavenly Army hasn’t gone away, but is still here. Remember when Jesus told the mob with Judas that he could call upon 12 legions of angels? All those angels are still on duty today. Let us fight this spiritual battle with all that is within us, and then only rest when our time to be called home comes (and those same angels usher us into glory).

  3. This is one of my favorites and every time I read it or think of it, I can close my eyes and see the legions of angels. What a sight! Right there. Right above us. At the ready. Our Mighty God is so kind and caring and loving toward us, undeserving though we are.
