So Where’s the Christmas Candy?!?

Grrr…! Lemme get this off my chest.

I love seasonal candies. I love Christmas candy. So today I went out to Walgreen’s to get some. Several traffic jams and detours later, I arrive to discover that there is no Christmas candy for sale at Walgreen’s this year. There is only chocolate. You know–like anybody can get, every single day of the year.

Oh! But it’s got special Christmas wrapping! I do resent being taken for that big a butterball.

I complained to the store manager. “Look! It’s only chocolate. It doesn’t matter what color wrapping it has! There’s nothing seasonal about it. ”

“But they only stock us with what everybody is buying,” was his comeback. Could it possibly be that people are buying chocolate because there is nothing but chocolate to buy? That seems not to have occurred to him.

Then I drove home through the traffic jams amid the wilderness of McMansions that used to be some rather lovely country, until Democrats got hold of it.

    1. To do that would require me to have certain skills which I am as far from possessing as the earth is from the top of the sky. As for candy canes… Well, yeah, but if you’ve had one candy cane, you’ve had ’em all.
Patty has just ordered me some real Christmas candy online.

  1. Every business and marketing decision of our day is made by someone with a meaningless degree and an empty soul.

  2. We always buy Sees candy at Christmas time for gifts and for ourselves. It is the only time of year you can buy it in these parts of the woods. I grew up with Sees Candy Stores all around in southern California. They’re the best in our book – and a pound of them make for great gifts, with plenty of assortments to choose from. I had better stop now – this is becoming a commercial 🙂

  3. jVermont Country Store is online with all kinds of classic foods. You can request a printed catalog also. I know you’ll be glad you looked at their site.

    1. Thanks, Joyce–I’ve ordered from them before. I just think you ought to be able to walk into the store and buy some Christmas candy at Christmastime. Anyway, we’ve ordered some.

    2. I’m so sorry to hear of your disappointment Lee 🙁 I can remember as a kid always having ribbon candy and spice drops. That is so much a part of the Christmas Season. I do see all kinds of Chrstmas candy (besides chocolate) at our Wegman’s grocery store. Do you have Wegman’s in New Jersey?? They have everything! Walmart seems to have a lot also.

    3. We have Wegman’s, sure. It’s just not that much fun to drive to. And I haven’t looked in Walmart yet for the same reason–traffic. Anyhow, Patty ordered some online.
My favorite Christmas candy is the filled raspberries. When I was a kid you could walk into any store around Christmastime and buy a bag of ’em for 29 cents. You can still get them from the Vermont Country Store, but the shipping cost is murder.
