It always strikes me how much more clearly singers of the past articulated their lyrics than singers do today. I think the changes began in the 1970s. Even the rock singers of the 1960s could still make themselves understood. But considering what singers today are singing, it’s probably a good thing that I can’t understand a word they’re saying (or bellowing or twanging or grunting or whatever they’re doing).
It is nice to hear some of the older singers – the ones who still knew how it is done.
