I may have told this story once before, but this video reminded me of it, so here it is.
A few of us were messing around on a frozen lake one day–on top of a mountain, no less–miles from the nearest town and at least two miles from out car. One of our number suddenly called for our attention. “There’s something I’ve got to tell you, fellas,” he began–and then the ice broke under him and in he went, up to his chest.
Don’t worry, we pulled him out. We also succeeded, rather quickly, in building a large campfire that dried him off pretty good, enabling him to get back to the car with a minimum of discomfort. He didn’t even catch a cold.
No, we weren’t chasing fish we saw under the ice. That’s cat stuff.
They are better ice-skaters than I am! (I never tried…)
There were two tabbies, and a tuxedo cat in one vignette. Those tabbies acted like they were formally patrolling the pond. 🙂
I always thought letting a swimming pool freeze over was very damaging to the pools structure. That cat chasing a fish under the ice was so funny.
I don’t know–I’ve only known one family that had an in-ground pool, and I don’t know if they emptied it for the winter. It was a long time ago.
