We use bottled spring water, which gets delivered to our door in five-gallon jugs. We had a delivery today.
To set the scene, it’s zero degrees out. That is, 32 degrees below freezing. So guess what water is going to do if left outside for any length of time. Go ahead, think it over.
This must be a tough question, because our water delivery man failed it. He left the jugs outside. Didn’t bother to knock on our door to let us know he was here. Just left them sitting on the grass. Patty didn’t see or hear him, and I was out on errands, so there they stayed.
If I’d been away another 15 minutes, they would’ve frozen solid and burst the jugs. And waddaya wanna bet the water company would have tried to charge me for them?
Really, is this rocket science? Is this specialized, arcane, esoteric knowledge available only to the cognoscenti? Like, dude–water freezes! That’s where ice comes from. And water expands when it freezes–did you know that?–so if you fill a jar with water and put it in the freezer, the jar will break. Try it. Consider it a scientific experiment that any jidrool can do.
Can’t anybody do their job right anymore?
No, most can’t. As a society, we’ve gone stupid in less time than it took us to learn smart. Stupid is now near the top of the scholastic rating scale. He shook his head when I asked him a question – I’ll give him an A for effort. Nevermind effort begins with an E. I’M the teacher here and i’ll spell effort anyway that makes square things fit into round holes.
It might be ignorance more than stupidity — and I mean “ignorance” in the technical sense, i.e., lack of knowledge. The schools don’t teach real science in their science classes any more.

I find very few people any more who know how to do their jobs, and even fewer who seem to give a fig. One of the most impressive people I have observed in the local food market is a young woman who is handicapped.
She is in the produce dept. and is very diligent and helpful. The others?
All singing, dancing, laughing and joking with one another.
If that happened at our house, my wife would be on the phone and writing a letter to the company giving them a what for. When she does this, we usually get a positive response and free stuff.
