Yes, there are a couple of different melodies. With other hymns, it’s the same melody for a lot of different sets of lyrics.

I’ve always been fond of this hymn because we learned it in high school, in one of our required choral music classes. Of course, I was an atheist then, as were many of my classmates, but we didn’t get all bent out of shape (i.e., “triggered”) at having to sing a religious song. After all, we were all required to take Latin every year, too, and we didn’t think we were being forced to become pagans. Ovid and Virgil were literature; hymns and oratorio selections were music. It was all beauty. So?
The world really was a different place back then (1950s).
Oh, and we also sang religious songs and stood for the reading of a psalm at assembly in grade school (1940s). And no one complained, not even my militant atheist mother, who thought the psalms were beautiful poetry.
I remember that world. It was better! Our dentistry today is better, and our chess notation, but that’s about it.
