You’d smile, too, if you got off without jail time

Two years after this piece was posted, a French court found Christine Lagarde guilty of negligence, but didn’t bother to impose a penalty. After all, anyone could lost half a billion euros.

Help Wanted: International Monetary Fund Honcho

As president of the International Monetary Fund, as the world’s highest-profile banker, Lagarde succeeded some guy who was a sexual predator: used to chase chamber maids all around his hotel room. All Chrissie did was let a crooked business magnate walk off with half a billion euros.

Ms. Lagarde and her predecessor are living proof that global government is a very bad idea. A sinner can do damage as the mayor of a small town. As head honcho of a world bank, she can do a lot more damage. We put limitations on government because if we don’t, the government winds up killing us.

“Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils,” the Lord told Isaiah: “for wherein is he to be accounted of?” (Isaiah 2:22)

  1. In the end, that’s what it’s all about. Fallen man has failed on every front. We’ve accomplished near miracles, such as landing on the moon and developing effective treatments for many diseases, but no matter what we do, we can’t achieve the justice and uprightness of our Creator. This was the issues from day one, from Eden, the tree of the knowledge of good and bad. When humans start making that call, we tend to get it wrong.

How many times have we seen human philosophers and policy-makers weigh in on the side of the immoral and perverse, while failing to protect the interests of persons whom were living uprightly? When half a billion Euros goes missing, someone has been hurt. That money was unjustly taken and the people that rightly owned that money were treated unjustly. Allowing the responsible party to walk away unpunished is a travesty of justice.

  2. Mayor Pete who is running for President as a Dem preaches Capitalism has left too many people behind. That word, Capitalism, is a tricky one. It is a system based on information, capital, and trust, and if done successfully makes a profit. It requires a very small federal government whose job it is to make sure proper adjudication is done when needed, and to protect the populous from enemies without. Today, we don’t have the conditions for a true capitalistic society, the federal government is way too big and intrusive. When Alexis de Touqueville came to America on a fact-finding mission in the early 1800’s, he found no semblance that a federal government even existed because the religious people were self-governed.

    1. I really can’t decide which of the current Democrats is the most revolting, but that guy’s certainly in the running for it. The “Christian” who says God got everything wrong. What a disgrace to our country.

  3. DeToqueville was onto something. He stated that America’s greatness was in its goodness. He said that if we lost our goodness, we would lose our greatness. He was no dummy. Sadly, America is not the Christian nation it once was.
