I Just Can’t Stand It

Early to work today, with nothing much accomplished–sorry, but when I scanned the nooze this morning, I just couldn’t bear to write it down. Hundreds of people killed by terrorists in Sri Lanka. Teens swallowing Climate Change, hook, line, and sinker. And look at that, I’ve started to write it anyway–! Mille tonnere, as Hercule Poirot would say. I have no idea what that means.

I just want things to be normal again, without assorted monsters and boogiemen peering over my shoulder.

Lord, are you hearing my prayers? At least, O God, relieve my wife’s afflictions. The doctor and all his tests, they were no help. I need to be able to say, as the Psalmist says, “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” (Ps. 121:2).

I’m going to keep on shooting prayers at you, Lord, until you heal her. In Jesus’ name, please heal her now!

The rest of it, I’ll face. Just do this for me, Father. Please. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. A thousand thunderclaps, mille tonnere.

Lee, I am convinced that we are on the cusp of some very big events. We have to live our lives day by day, but the situation overall is beyond sustenance. I read the same reports, terrorism and the near hysteria of the far Left, and I shudder. Even having lived through the cynical seventies, what I see now is much worse, The Lord will sustain you until such time as our deliverance arrives. Amen, come quickly Lord Jesus.

    1. I just wish someone along the way had taught me how to walk by faith and not by sight. It’d be a good thing to know, just now.

    2. Faith requires persistence. Sometimes being firm with God by reminding Him of His promises is necessary. He knows what you need. I’ve read the prayers of biblical prophets whose prayers went through several stages that included a humble “just do it now, please.”

    3. None of us have the faith we should, even if we have a lot of faith. I have my moments of despair and uncertainty, but somehow, I always come through it ok.

Let me suggest a technique I use on myself. Stop and remind yourself that you’ve made it through tough times before, and you will make it through them this time. It’s true; I am certain of that. This helps you to regain perspective. You may have to accommodate matters in one way or another, but both of you will get through this.

One other thing I think of at times like this is the fact that the things I worry about frequently don’t come to pass. It’s a good thing to remember.

Most importantly, remember Romans 8:38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  2. Amen, please come soon, Lord. I have been praying for your healing and other needs, and for those of a lot of other people as well. I feel all out of sorts this morning, too. I hardly slept last night and that just gets me down.
I am trying to be strong, but I have never found that so hard to do.
I do feel that the world is tipping right on the edge of chaos, and if it were not for knowing the Lord has it all in His hands, …well, I don’t want to think about it.

  3. I’ve been praying for you and Patty all along — for peace of mind as much as for physical healing.

I think it was Mother Angelica who used to say that when we drag our crosses, they feel heavy beyond our bearing, but when we embrace and lift them along with the Cross of Christ, they become lighter. The way I usually put it is that in order to cling to Christ, we must cling to His Cross — but when we cling to the cross, even our own cross, we’re clinging to Christ.

  4. mille = thousand; tonnere = thunders = cry of exasperation – or a steamrolled roadrunner?

Praying for you every day. For both of you. May God bless and heal you.

    1. LOL. You must have been going a lot faster. Was that your beep beep or the roadrunner’s?

  5. I can strongly empathize with you, Lee. When my wife went through chemo treatment for her breast cancer in 2013, the chemo almost killed her instead of the cancer. Her doctor had to stop the final treatments. I begged God for His mercy upon my blessed wife. Our church prayed faithfully for her. After the double mastectomy, Linda’s health was restored close to what it was before – Praise the Lord!. During those trying months I thought much on Romans 8 where it talks about the Holy Spirit praying through us with words that can’t be uttered.

    1. Me too. I repeat the same prayer every time I pray. Then ask God to bless, heal, or help the people on my list. Then i’m silent for a short while. Followed by an amen, unless someone is in crisis; then I get in touch with my feelings and speak from my heart, which is really talking to God. That’s the difficult, but doable part. There are things in life we have to go through to get past them. It’s times like those that our faith is tested.

    2. I have the same problem, Lee. My prayers used to be almost constant and very deep. As life has left its scar, I no longer seem able to do that, in fact it’s a rarity at this point in life.

As The White Rabbit mentioned, Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For bwe do not know what to pray for as we ought, but cthe Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And dhe who searches hearts knows what is ethe mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints gaccording to the will of God.

We aren’t on our own in this battle and it is a battle to live a devout life in our day. But Jesus sent a helper in the form of Holy Spirit which works to bolster us.

  6. Concerning health: I would never advise anyone to substitute my beliefs for their own. However, my husband and I did not begin to experience being really healthy until we stopped going to the doctor and started investigating alternative health practices. (essential oils, colloidal silver, iodine, really good vitamins, etc.) I will pray for the Lord’s wisdom and guidance for you and your family.
