Some of you already know that on Thursday our friend and sister Evelyn will be interviewed at home by National Public Radio. The subject will be her home state of Massachusetts’ court-imposed same-sex “marriage,” and her role in opposing it: for Evelyn has been fighting the good fight for a long time now.
I think we all know where NPR stands on this issue. Evelyn has asked for our prayers, and we need to pray hard for her: because this will be a challenge.
O Lord our God! As you sustained David when he went up against Goliath, sustain your servant Evelyn with courage. As you sustained St. Paul when he was examined by the Roman authorities and King Agrippa, sustain your servant Evelyn with shrewdness and conviction. May your Holy Spirit give her the words she needs to speak, and give them power. And protect her, Father, from the rulers of the darkness of this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I’m just back home from the NPR interview.
I think it went pretty well. I did ask her for a copy of the tape, which she will send me. Hopefully it will be the pre-edited version.
I liked the interviewer. She had a great name, Gabriella Emmanuel. She was young and friendly and I think we had a good rapport.
She kept prodding to see if my attitudes toward same-sex marriage have changed in the past 15 years. I told her no, that my beliefs have only been confirmed over time, that it would lead to further disintegration of marriage, and like single parenting, to poorer outcomes for children, who need both a mother and father.
I told her that since same-sex marriage is relatively new, there is not enough data to show definitively what outcomes will be for their children. But even if the outcomes are shown to be better than with single parents, I would worry about them less, but still think they are missing something.
I related it to an article on the front page of yesterday’s Boston Herald, concerned about the large “educational achievement gap” between whites and Asians, vs. blacks and Hispanics. The article, of course, called for more money for schools. It’s liberals’ single, predictable answer to all social problems – throw money at it.
They are not getting to the root problem, which is family disintegration, which is only exacerbated by the idea that sex and babies don’t go together, children don’t need a mother and father; divorce is no problem, the kids will be fine, etc., etc.
When I was in grade school we had one child of divorce who was being raised by her mother. She had a tough time. But if you went to a typical Boston classroom now, you would be likely to find that over 50% were either products of divorce, or unwed birth, being raised by one parent.
If we don’t recognize the root problem (disintegration of the natural family as God created it), we will never solve the problems that result.
Anyway, the lovely hymn that I found on your website, “Trust and Obey,” kept going through my mind as I was agonizing over how much material I needed to catch up on, and how little time I had to do it.
I did my best, now it’s in the Lord’s hands.

Now that it’s over, I can say I’d never trust NPR to do an on-the-level interview with me: I would always expect them to set me up. Sorry, but I just don’t trust liberals. So I salute you for your courage! Even if they edit the tape to make you look bad, you stepped up to serve the Lord: and you can be sure He took note of it.
