There are people who don’t like fantasy; but what they really don’t like is bad fantasy, and there’s always more than enough of that to go around.
A lot of the problem is simple to see: the writers just haven’t made their fictional characters seem real.
There’s really no point in writing unoriginal fantasy featuring cardboard characters who talk and think and act like everybody else’s cardboard characters.
If you’re doing that, you haven’t created a fantasy.
You’ve created a college campus.

I wonder if you’ve ever read the “Wingfeather Saga” by Andrew Peterson, since I haven’t seen it in your reviews. It starts out a little campy, but finishes strong. It might help pass the time in all those doctor’s waiting rooms! Glad your wife is getting some relief.
I keep meaning to read that, it comes highly recommended… but somehow I always forget.
Also, I just re-read “Fahrenheit 451”, and found it MUCH more disturbing than when I read it in high school. Why? Probably because everyone now really does walk around with “seashells” in their ears, our “parlor families” are found on Facebook, and Amazon is “burning” books that the public shouldn’t read!
