I’ve been thinking about this for days. Maybe it’ll grow into a Newswithviews column. Maybe your comments will inspire me. Pitch in, everybody.
When Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park says “Boy, do I hate being right all the time,” he’s talking about his repeated warnings that the dinosaur park is going to fail spectacularly–and of course he’s right. Everything goes wrong.
And of course the park’s creators are totally flabbergasted because they were 100% sure they had everything, and I do mean everything, totally under control. In fact they had nothing under control.
As Christians we’re expected to know that God is in control of His creation. We’re lucky if we can control ourselves for five minutes, never mind managing the world.
But the delusion of this age is the illusion of control, the old con game Satan ran on Eve, “Ye shall be as gods.” In fact, think the fat-heads who believe this, they’d better be as gods because the real God does not exist, it’s all up to them to keep the planet spinning, etc. All up to them! And these are people who’d be hard-put to organize a game of hopscotch.
Rather than suffer the shock of coming to grips with their limitations, control freaks just think bigger and bigger. A lousy dinosaur park? Peanuts! They’re after global government. They aspire to micro-manage the climate. They’ll do all those things God should’ve done, but couldn’t–end war, end poverty, no more disease, everybody equal, free college education, blah-blah.
If that doesn’t scare you, what will?
This has always been the problem with centrally planned economies. No small group of people can know everything about everything — and not just about the billions of commodities themselves but also about the almost infinite variables generated by the interactions of all those commodities with each other, and most especially the individual decisions of billions of people about all those commodities and their interactions. And that’s just the “commodities” part of the equation. We haven’t even begun to factor in the variations in flora and fauna and their interactions, tectonic plate movements, sunspots, the oddities of the cosmos….
But hey, a little 5-year plan by a panel of “experts,” and we’re good to go. Or gods-to-go, with instant delivery and simple assembly.
Come to think of it, how about Gods-To-Go as a starting point for an article?

The goals of the Left are far more frightening than Jurassic Park.
We know they will get their opportunity during the last seven years of this age, and what a fiasco it will be. Once and for all, the “dark one” and his followers will prove to all creation what utter failures they really are; then the Lord will fix it. and that will be that.
Meanwhile, it’s going to be a horribly rough ride.
Yes, it will, and getting rougher all the time, everywhere, all the time, never thought I’d see the day. Time to hang on.
(As I read this my wife has “Jurassic Park” on our television – they run this movie all the time). The wanna-be gods never figure in the human element, thinking we are but socio-economical machines to be programmed. When the Bolsheviks first took over Russia they scientifically figured out which millions of people would have to be killed to achieve Marx’s utopia. Hitler, Mao, and Pol Pot all did the same. And now the wanna-be gods are doing the same with population control plans.
Now how’s that for a coincidence! That’s the very same movie Patty and I watched this afternoon. It’s one of our favorites, not just because of the dinosaurs, but even more because of the lesson it teaches about the illusion of control.
And notice that all the trouble in Jurassic Park gets touched off by a storm–something that no one can possibly control. Nobody figured that into their calculations.
