Not at all likely!
There was some snow in the forecast earlier this week–we got about half an inch–and when we went to the supermarket that morning, almost all the milk had already been bought out. ‘Cause when it snows, you’ll need several gallons of milk, at least a dozen packages of toilet paper, and a boxful of batteries.
This is New Jersey. We don’t have snowstorms that shut you in for a week. Nor do we have tornadoes, wildfires, or volcanoes (just the very occasional minor earthquake: which, I admit, is startling). So why does everybody panic whenever there’s snow in the weather forecast? Half the time, at least, it turns out there isn’t any at all.
It’s one of those things I just can’t figure out.
We had snow yesterday, and again last night, but then it turned to rain and most of it disappeared. Can’t count on this for long, though. We will get it.
Here in Italy just a little snow flagging…. but yes I can’t understand all those alerting behaviours
I think it’s because the weather reports have purposely started over-estimating the severity of weather as a hedge against lawsuits.
They’ve been doing it for quite a while now. I remember one Sunday afternoon, circa 2002, the word on the radio, for the Weather Service, was “the mother of all snowstorms, we’re doomed, do you hear me, doomed–waaaaaaah!!!” So businesses and government offices pre-emptively announced they’d be closed Monday.
And OF COURSE not a single snowflake fell! And a lot of people lost a lot of money, losing a business day that didn’t have to be lost.
There was a lot of talk of lawsuits then, although I don’t remember if any actually materialized.
In South America they murder the weatherman if he’s **that wrong.
Like everything on TV, the weather is a form of entertainment.
I wish it would actually entertain us sometimes!
I’m glad that you can get these photos of snow. As for myself (here in Houston), I have not seen that cold stuff in appreciable amounts for years. For the last few years, we only got a dusting once in January.
Of course, I kind of like being able to pick lemons from my own tree.
The same thing happens here in southern Ohio, and I just don’t get it! You can even hear the weather people telling viewers to go out and get bread and milk because it’s going to snow…an inch. An inch that will melt away faster than it took to accumulate. People are crazy, I tell ya.

Same here in western Arkansas – if it does snow and ice a little you had better watch out because people around here have no idea of how to drive in the stuff.
Here in NJ they *should* know how, but they don’t. Snow on the Parkway? Cars tossed all over like tinker toys.
