‘Rage Rooms’? Really?

Here’s a new cultural wrinkle. What do you think of it?

“Rage rooms.” A second one recently opened in New Jersey. It’s called “Break Stuff NJ,” because you go in there and break stuff (http://newjersey.news12.com/story/41226471/looking-to-let-off-some-steam-rage-room-venue-opens-in-new-jersey). You put on “protective gear” and smash plates and TV sets.

Anyone can fly into a rage. But to get in your car and drive out to “Break Stuff,” and suit up, and be given a hammer or a baseball bat, and only then let your rage run free–well, wouldn’t you have cooled down by then? If you’re normal, that is. Or maybe you’d find it fun to break stuff and not get in trouble for it.

I mean, wouldn’t a “Dagnabit!” or two suffice, and maybe slap the door frame hard enough to sting your palm? Or you could, uh, control yourself. I remember the time my father was using a power drill and he slipped and drove it right through the top of his foot and out the bottom. I heard him say “Oh, darn” just before I fainted. Well, okay, I didn’t really faint, but I wasn’t good for much, for a while.

I don’t know. Democrats have kept up their anti-Trump tantrum every day for three years now, and show no signs of cooling off. But I would hate to think they provide any kind of standard for behavior. They don’t need a rage room; they have a House of Representatives.

Is self-control getting engineered out of our culture?

I wonder.

  1. I’m imagining someone looking for a safe space accidentally walking into a rage room instead — or vice versa.

  2. Your Dad’s “Oh darn!” after he put a drill through his foot reminded me of my own Dad in the 1950s. His worst cuss was “Dannit!”

  3. Good one, Lee! We are living through a madness that has invaded and pervaded our culture and institutions, and done it so quickly our heads are spinning. Isaiah 59:19 says “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” Spirit-filled Christians are the standard, and our sword is the Word of God. Become versed in the Word and watch the devil flee. When we listen to the songs posted on this blog, the devil takes flight.

  4. Whoever set this up doesn’t care if it works or not. They just know the sorry state of leftiids these days will find this activity appealing. Cashing in on the clueless.

    1. lol – yes indeed. There are those who like fatal attractions. Some people just don’t have enough important things to do these days. Others just don’t do them. Thank God for the minority who do.

    2. Got it, now. The tabula rasa of politics. When you know nothing, everything is new/

  5. Of course it is. Self control is one of the fruits of the Spirit. It’s one of the hardest disciplines to maintain in our fallen state, and so is an easy point of attack for Satan. Take away our ability to maintain self control, and all the rest collapses into chaos. That being said, if I drilled a hole clean through my foot, I don’t think “Oh, darn” would be my response. 🙂
