I Am Injured (Oh, Fap!)

I don’t know how I did this, but my right knee is a mess and I find it hard to get around today.

The other day I woke up with some stiffness and soreness in the knee. It must have been the merest little misstep, too trivial to be noticed or remembered, that did the damage, probably the day before. It was stiffer and sorer yesterday, so I, er, reasoned that a little walk would do me good. Just a little walk downtown to the pharmacy, to get Robbie’s medicine. Just the ticket to get the knee back into shape.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. I barely made it home. And you don’t need to ask why I haven’t gone to the doctor, do you?

The last time I had a knee injury, it happened in a judo match (right in front of all my students) and I had to be carted off on a stretcher. You don’t forget a thing like that. This time, I just don’t know what happened.

I’m praying time and rest and our Lord’s good grace will heal me.

  1. Oh, no! I’m praying for you, Lee. Have you had something like this before, so you know what helps it? — i.e., heat, cold, keeping immobilized, certain exercises, etc? (Obviously, walking is NOT a good exercise right now.)

And I know what you mean about not even trying to see a doctor about anything except Wuhan these days. 🙁 But we’ll keep praying.

Jesus, good physician, please heal Lee in body and spirit. Amen.

    1. Thanks, Phoebe. I’m going to rely mostly on rest today. The sun’s shining, so I can sit in my Bell Mountain chair and have a cigar. I’ve applied Olbas ointment this morning; maybe an ice pack later.

The other times I’ve hurt my knee, the cause was totally obvious. This time, nothin’. A mini-stumble over a crack in the sidewalk, something like that.

Thanks so much for your prayers.

  2. I’ve had my share of mysterious pains that lasted awhile, sometimes months, and then just disappeared.

  3. Hi, Lee . . . Have you been checked for gout? My knee[s] (pick one) can hurt like a son-of-a-gun when I get a gout attack; attack comes out of nowhere and cripples me up something fierce! Allopurinol works for me to get my gout back under control. God bless you . . . and I pray it’s NOT gout!!! 🙂

    1. I had gout many years ago, and this doesn’t feel like gout. You don’t ever forget what gout feels like. I was on Allopurinol for years. Anyway, they aren’t letting you visit the emergency room just now. This thing hurts, but nowhere near as much as gout.
