The first time I ever heard this hymn was in Night of the Hunter, sung by Lillian Gish and Robert Mitchum.
I’ve always associated the hymn with that film as well. And yet, it’s a beautiful hymn. Did you notice that Robert Mitchum and Lilian Gish sing it slightly differently? Mitchum leaves out the name of Jesus, while Gish always includes it.
