We’ve been trying for a week to get Patty’s car out of the ice. Unable to drive, she’s been getting cabin fever. Our neighbor, Josh, shoveled some away the other day and said he thought we might be able to move it today.
Well, I tried. The car got stuck again. I shoveled some more, and then some more–and voila! She finally broke loose. I took it around the block and parked it on the street so Patty could drive us to the supermarket.
Coming home, I suggested we park on the street again, so she could walk on the sidewalk instead of an uneven expanse of frozen snow, and then I’d return the car to our regular parking space–but no, she didn’t think we had to go to all that trouble.
It turned out that we should have. She parked the car all right, but couldn’t manage walking the terrain. She had to try to, though. I followed close behind, so I could catch her if she fell. The ice there is very tricky and I fell there the other day.
So of course she did fall, and off to the side where I couldn’t reach her. “I told you to fall backwards,” I helpfully reminded her. Getting her back on her feet, amid all that slippery ice, was no treat.
She’s going to be sore tomorrow, but she’s all right now.
I’ve loved snow all my life, but too much is too much.
oh, dear, I’m sorry to hear this. Well, we have another new 6 inches of snow, and more still falling. My car has a dead battery, and wouldn’t even take a charge this time. Guess I’ll have to buy a new one, ggggrrrrr.
I’m glad you were able to get Patty up and into the house. I have a friend whose brother wasn’t so lucky. He lay there in the snow for a very long time before help came, and he is now in a care facility.
When it’s this slippery it’s really hard to get up again, even with someone helping you.
Snow finally came to Arkansas Sunday night and lasted until this afternoon, about 5″ at my house. The temperature tonight is to get down to 1*. Our public schools are closed until Wednesday. So glad Patti is okay – hey, we are not spring chickens anymore.
Due to climbit chains, I’ve been spending $100 per week keeping my Arizona home heated. If this climbit experiences any more chains I might have to grow fur. 🙂

I guess. All I know is that I went through a good 150 gallons of propane in five weeks.
I’m glad Patty made it back to her feet again without any serious injuries. Sometimes the only way to get up from ice is to scoot along on one’s backside (or frontside or sideside, depending on how one fell) until one reaches a place with some traction. This can be hard on the clothing, and even harder on the dignity, but it usually works. Snowbanks are another matter. There’s no place to slide. Erlene, how terrible about your friend’s brother.
She feels a bit sore this morning, but it’ll pass. And today we have freezing rain.
We got about 4-6 inches of Globble Worming overnight. I’m socked in. The main street in front of my apartment building has been cleared, but the alley behind my building, where my car has to exit from the underground garage, hasn’t been cleared all winter. And the side street from the alley to the main street, although it finally got partially cleared over the weekend, is now buried again. This is actually unusual. The city normally takes a while to get to our alley and side street, but this winter they haven’t bothered at all, even after the main streets have been cleared. Oh, well. I wouldn’t have been able to get out of the garage this morning anyway, since our own maintenance people haven’t been in yet to clear the (very steep) exit and entrance ramps.
