‘Bringing in the Sheaves’

We can’t do better than this to start our day–a great old-fashioned hymn, Bringing in the Sheaves.

I wonder how many people even know what sheaves are, these days.

And Burl Ives is well worth remembering, too.

  1. You asked a good question about sheaves. I wrote a study on Feast of First Fruits, which is about that, and how it is an important part of the resurrection of the Lord. I wish I could find a way to send you a link to it, but I can’t get this computer program to do that. I have shared this teaching with a number of people and not one of them had understood it before. It is an important part of the fulfillment of the O.T. by Jesus, as He told us he would fulfill these things. (Matthew 5:17-19)

  2. The answer is in Leviticus 23 where the Word says “on the first day after the Sabbath, the priest shall take a “sheaf” of grain and wave it before the Lord ” (v. 9-11) Called Feast of First Fruits. Then, when Jesus rose from the tomb on the First Day of the Week, He also raised a group of righteous saints from their graves and they were seen by many. This was His fulfillment of the Feast in Leviticus. This did not establish Sunday as the new Sabbath, it fulfilled the Feast. Man was the entity which decided Sunday replaced the 7th day. So many things have been done like this. It is so great that we have a gracious and forgiving God.

  3. Bringing in the Cheerios! The saints that rose from the grave when Jesus was crucified were like Lazarus, they lived out their natural lives and died again – and what powerful witnesses for Christ they would be!!

  4. I puzzled over this for quite a while myself, then one day, bingo! The Holy Spirit worked out the whole thing for me, and another reminder of how the so-called Old Testament ties so perfectly with the New. I have found very little, if anything in all my searches of Christian writers, but I know for certain that what I was shown is the answer. Some former pastors, when I shared it with them, were astounded and said, wow, I never saw that before, but it is obvious now that I see, and I wonder how I could have missed it all this time.

  5. A lot of people think all those “rituals” and Jewish sacrifices, etc. have nothing to do with us, but they are mistaken. Each of the Feasts have been or are scheduled to be fulfilled by Yeshua the Lord, as He Himself said. The Feast of Trumpets is extremely important for all born again believers. We can see it in the Book
    of Revelation- the 7th trumpet.

  6. If you don’t mind giving me your mailing address, I could print out the articles (they are short) and sending them to you.
