Here’s a classic spiritual, requested by Phoebe–We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder, sung by Bernice Johnson Reagon.

Would you believe we used to sing these in public school? It’s true: big, big difference between then and now.

  1. When we sang this in school, we did a much more rhythmic version, sometimes with clapping. This version has some beautiful harmonies, but it’s kind of hard to make out the words. (Of course, I’m an Old Lady with not-so-good ears!)
