Hymn, ‘It Is Well With My Soul’

By popular demand–well, by one reader, but I have to start somewhere–here’s It Is Well With My Soul.

God grant that it be so for all of us, His people.

Hymn, ‘Our Father Who Art in Heaven’

By reader request, here’s Our Father Who Art in Heaven, performed by Don Moen.

I don’t know when this happened in my life, but at some point not too long ago, I began to perceive that God is a person. That’s why He made us persons, in His image. And this changed everything.

He couldn’t love us if He weren’t a person; but He is, so He does.

Hymn, ‘I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say’

By reader request–and I don’t know who these performers are, but they do a lovely job.

I’m also not altogether sure I’ve got the hymn that was actually requested. So, Jaroc, let me know if this was the one you wanted. If not, I’ll go back for another look.

But this one will certainly do to start the day.

‘Untitled Hymn’ (‘Come to Jesus’)

By reader request (hooray, somebody listened!), here is the Untitled Hymn by Chris Rice.

Knowing I prefer old hymns, the reader was a little tentative about requesting a new one. Well, my preferences aren’t so terribly important. And anyhow, new hymns that stand the test of time will be good old hymns someday.

‘There Will Be Peace in the Valley’

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.  Isaiah 11:9

By reader request, here is…. Elvis Presley?

If anyone as late as yesterday had suggested I’d be posting Elvis Presley here, I would have boggled at the thought. But God gave Elvis a beautiful singing voice, and here he uses it to praise the Lord. The lyrics are modeled after Isaiah Chapter 11. And it really is a nice hymn, and I’m glad somebody called my attention to it.

Just don’t ask me to post any “Christian rap,” folks. But I hope you’ve enjoyed Elvis’ piece.

Hymn, ‘ Create in Me a Clean Heart’

By reader request: This is Psalm 51, set to modern music and performed by Keith Green. David wrote this after God punished his adultery with Bathsheba.

That was very serious business. Bad enough that David took a man’s wife. But he also used his power as king to get the man, Uriah the Hittite, killed in battle. So in addition to adultery, David was guilty of murder and treason. I use the word “treason” in its original sense, meaning a personal betrayal.

Clean in me a clean heart, O God, and a right spirit.

Who doesn’t need to pray that prayer?

Hymn, ‘Blessed Be the Lord God Almighty’

By request, Blessed Be the Lord God Almighty by the Maranatha Singers. Why wait till tomorrow to post a hymn that I can post today?

We seem to be spending a lot of time in the Book of Revelation today–but it’s a good place to be.

‘The Storm is Passing Over’

By reader request, so here it is–The Storm is Passing Over, sung by the American Boychoir.

So far only a few of you regular readers have requested hymns; but the hymn shop is open to all, so don’t be shy.

Now it’s time to do errands, so I’ll be out for a while.

May God grant that the storm of this evil age pass over quickly.

Welsh Hymn, ‘Calon Lan’

The title of this traditional hymn means “Pure Heart,” and I don’t understand a word of the Welsh lyrics, sung by Cerys Matthews. I don’t feel any need to translate. Beauty has no need of a translation.

The hymn speaks to me without words. Relax, and let it speak to you.

Hymn, ‘Amazing Grace’

From Scotland, from Ina, comes this request for Amazing Grace. I hope this rendition by Celtic Woman pleases you.

Somehow Amazing Grace always winds up being played with bagpipes. My cats don’t like bagpipes, but I do. A lot.
