Can You Read These Dogs’ Minds?

Short and accurate answer: of course not. Go ahead, explain why a big, strong, healthy dog should go bananas at the sight of a little piece of orange peel. Dogs’ minds are much too complex for us to read them.

Dogs Just Wanna Have Fun

Go ahead, tell me dogs don’t have a sense of fun! But why else would you put on a high-energy threat display for the benefit of a broccoli or a strawberry? On second thought, don’t answer that.

A few of these clips have already appeared in other compilations–which only means that you can enjoy them again.

Cats & Dogs on Ice

Slipping on the ice can be a big problem for us clumsy bipeds, but cats and dogs look like they enjoy it. Gee, it’s been a long time since I’ve ice-skated! Or just run onto a sheet of ice to see how far I could slide. Just now, there isn’t any ice available around here.

You can learn a lot about seizing joy by watching animals.

Kittens Cuddling with Dogs

What? You didn’t like that octopus video? Well, all right, here’s something a bit fuzzier. And somewhat dryer: kittens cuddling with dogs.

Any one of these dogs could swallow the kitten in one gulp, and yet they don’t. No. They play. They cuddle. I wish I could join them, but it’s only a video. Even Gumby never learned how to go into a video.

Eh? You don’t know who Gumby was?

Ask your mother.

Follow the Bouncing Dog

Great supporting cast of cats and birds, a baby llama, and an otter: but the dog who thinks he’s a superball takes the cake. Although I have to give high marks to the parakeet who’s trying to balance on a tennis ball and steer it across the room. I wish I had a video of my cat Henry arguing with me over the Strat-O-Matic game, but these will do just as well.

A Dog & Bunny Show

Dogs chasing bunnies, bunnies chasing dogs, and nobody gets eaten? Really? What’s going on around here?

I wonder if it’s a preview of what’s in store for all of us, human and animal, when God Our Father restores and regenerates His whole creation.

Some *Real* Sled Dogs

Here are some dogs who’ve got it figured out–it’s much more fun to ride the sled than to lug it around with someone in it. Note the dog who steals the slide, and the ride, from the unsuspecting human.

Some of these dogs act like they’ve been brought up by cats.

The Joy of Snow (per Dogs and Cats)

Gee, this makes me want to go out and play in the snow! Only we don’t have any.

The capacity for joy, the power of fun–these critters could teach us a thing or two about those very important things, if we were wise enough to learn.

False Fact: Whenever it snowed, Genghis Khan used to stop whatever he was doing and make a snowman.

Cat and Dog, Partners in Crime

I once lived in a house where this happened fairly often. We had a refrigerator with one of those push-down door handles. The cat would jump up and hang on the handle, pulling it down and causing the door to swing open. Then he and the dog would climb in and eat my housemates’ suppers.

Here they’re only stealing cookies, and probably confused by the patzer standing there with a camera, filming them. It would confuse me if I were stealing cookies.

Corgis Do Their Stuff

I find something charming in these slightly goofy little dogs. A corgi will try anything once. I particularly like the one who has decided he can moonlight as a sheepdog. Maybe he ought to watch Babe one more time, before the goats run out of patience with him.
