An Uphill Journey, All the Way

You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find a picture of someone riding a bike without one of those sissy helmets.

I’ve had my bike over a week and have ridden it almost every day, only to discover that all the streets in my hometown are uphill.

Rome was famous for its seven hills. My town is a fiftieth the size of Rome and has 700 hills. Curiously, very few of them seem to go downhill. You’d think that for every upslope there would be a downslope, but somehow it doesn’t work that way.

My bike has only one speed. When you pedal uphill, it feels like your tires are glued to the road.

The idea is to use regular exercise to lower my blood pressure. I hope it works. Tackling all those hills has got to be good for something.
