Prayer Request: Phoebe & Iggy

Please join in prayer for our sister Phoebe, whose old cat, Iggy, has been sick for a few days.

O Lord Our God, you know there’s nothing that hurts us so much as to fear for our loved ones; and you know how we love our pets: that’s why you gave them to us (and us to them). Please, Father–be good to your servant, Phoebe, and deliver her cat out of sickness. We are your people, and the sheep of your hand, and we always need Our Shepherd. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Amen. And in your tenderness and lovngkindness, remove this illness from Iggy. Restore him good as new. Thank you, Father. In Jesus’ mighty Name.

  2. Thank you, Lee and Linda and everyone else who prayed. Iggy has taken a bit to eat today, a little at a time, and except for one violent upchuck this morning, just before I posted my prayer request, he’s managed to hold everything down. Yesterday, after throwing up his breakfast, he wouldn’t touch any kind of food at all (I opened six different flavors!), and he moped around groggily as though he couldn’t figure out what he was doing.

But I just gave him another teaspoon of food (1pm), and not only is he keeping it down (almost half a can of Fancy Feast so far today) but when I took out the trash afterward, he ran out into the hall and led me in a game of tag. I wouldn’t have dreamed this possible yesterday, or even early this morning.

So I’m thankful to God and thankful to everyone who prayed. I love you all.

    1. I’m glad he shows signs of improvement, Phoebe, but I think it’d be a good idea to take him to the vet. It might be something that can quickly be put right.

    2. Thanks, Lee. I’m still watching him, and if he eats his dinner well and keeps it down, I’ll figure he’s okay now. He may just have eaten something that cats shouldn’t eat. In fact, I was wondering whether he’d nibbled on the vines of the tomatoes-on-the-vine that I’d left out on the kitchen counter, and either poisoned himself or scratched himself up inside. But who knows?

Anyway, I’m also grateful that all the upchucking was on the hardwood floor and the kitchen counter (as well as a bit on my shoelaces), and not on the carpeted part of the floor — especially since there was so much liquid along with the upchucked food. 🙁

    3. You could be onto something, Phoebe. Since all parts of the nightshade family of plants are poisonous, except the fruit, if he ingested some of it, he may very well exhibit those symptoms. We’ll keep him – and you – in prayer. You’re a good mommy 🙂

  3. For those who’ve been praying, I’ve been holding off giving an update until I could be certain, but now it looks as if Iggy has recovered and is back to normal. It may have been those tomato stems after all. Or some kind of bug (germ, that is, not insect) that went away on its own. In any case, thank you all for your prayers.

But I still keep watching him for about 15 minutes after he eats, to be sure he’s holding everything down — bearing in mind that he’s always been a bit bulimic and throws up about once a week. The important thing is that he’s eating again and playing again, and sitting at the window watching the traffic and people again. (If he were a human female, he’d be called a yenta.)
