You’d think a cat who lives with human beings would learn to be pretty blase about shoes. Like, what’s the big deal, it’s only a shoe? Well, you’d be wrong. It’s easy to be wrong when you’re trying to understand cats.
This is Marmalade, of “Cole and Marmalade” youtube fame, giving some of Daddy’s shoes a workout.
Obviously, it’s all in self-defense against those aggressive shoelaces.
My mother’s cat used to sit at her feet, quietly untie her shoelaces, and then move a short distance away to watch what would happen when she started walking. He thought this was quite amusing. Fortunately, she always noticed the flapping laces before she wound up tripping over them.

I was thinking along similar lines. Shoelaces are dangerous and should be watched carefully. Even an old, discarded shoelace could reanimate at any moment and cats are our only line of defense. 🙂
It looked like the cat was going to use the shoelace to tie the two shoes together – now that would have worthy of going viral.
