‘Good King Wenceslas’

I can’t believe we went so long without this old favorite–Good King Wenceslas, performed by the Irish Rovers. It may make you want to dance.

Wenceslas was not a king, by the way; but he was a nobleman, and well loved for his saintly and generous ways. Popular opinion promoted him to king after his death.

  1. I was actually thinking of this one, but I remembered that Good King Wenceslas looked out on the feast of Stephen (26 December), not on Christmas. So, although the feast of Stephen is actually my birthday, I abstained from requesting the song. I’m glad you posted it anyway.

  2. I also like the Robert Shaw Chorale version of this song. (But then again, I guess I like the Robert Shaw Chorale version of almost anything.)
