This is a breaking story, so please forgive me if the details change.
Today, Yom Kippur, the most solemn day of the Jewish calendar, saw an attack on a synagogue in Manchester, England.
The perpetrator drove his car into a group of people outside the synagogue. Two people were killed and others injured. The perpetrator was killed by police.
When is this ever going to stop? I remember right after WWII my friend’s cousin came home from the army and was a changed man. He was one of a group that had liberated a concentration camp. He was profoundly changed after what he had witnessed.
I fear anti-Semitism to the marrow of my bones.
Please pray for these people.
God bless everybody.
Patty
Attacking Jewish people on Yom Kippur seems to be a thing. That’s how the 1973 war started. It would be analogous to attacking Catholics on Easter, when they are thinking of only one thing.
Abraham was chosen to be a blessing to the nations, and it was from his lineage that the Messiah came to be. Ancient Israel faced enormous opposition, and the name Israel itself means struggle. So now we are seeing opposition to modern day Jewish people once again becoming popular. It’s frightening.
These are terrible times. Not that long ago, a Catholic church in a pleasant Minneapolis neighborhood was the site of a shooting. This happened in a place somewhat familiar to me and was/is shocking, to say the least. More recently, a Mormon church was attacked and while many people do not hold the Mormon religion in high esteem, I certainly believe that they have the right to meet and worship as they see fit. I am neither Catholic or Mormon, but I’ve met many practitioners of these faiths who are lovely people and strive to live moral, decent lives.
Likewise, I am not Jewish, but I have worked with Jewish people who were very devoted to the God of Abraham. The Bible indicates that in God’s due time the veil will be lifted and that many Jewish people will accept Christ. When I hear of a synagogue being attacked, I think of Jewish people I’ve known and realize that this could happen to them.
When I think about it, none of us would have any hope without God’s abundant mercy and love, for all of mankind. Remember, Christ died to give everyone a path to be saved from sin and death. Hopefully tragedies such as this will serve to show people that violence is never the solution.
I agree. I do have a special bond with the Jewish people which I will post about later.
