  1. That is heartwarming, to say the least. Animals are a gift, and the more amazing animal videos I see, the more convinced I become that the original purpose God had in mind goes far beyond what we ever imagined.

    2. For years, the standard scientific line was that animals don’t have feelings and don’t think. I can’t agree with that, at all. As I write, it is relatively early in the day. The temperature outside is still somewhat low a d the sun is just high enough that it’s starting to feel like daytime. I just finished a cup of tea, to start the day.

      A gentle, and trusting little Siamese is lying on my lap, definitely enjoying this part the day, along with me. Her mood is similar to mine, awake and alert, but not quite ready to start the day in earnest. How could this happen if my cat was nothing more than a mindless bundle of instincts?

      This is played out countless times, with countless people and animals. Long ago, it struck me that dogs were very good at sensing the mood of the people they were around. If the mood was sad and subdued, they might quietly come lick someone’s hand, or just stay nearby. If the mood was happy and everyone seemed to be anticipating a good time, that same dog would be eager to be a part of it. When day is done, and it’s time for bed, domestic animals sense that, too, and usually seek out a place to sleep, near the humans they trust, and whatever activity the engage in during sleeping hours is quiet, unless they sense an intruder, or some other danger, in which case they sound the alarm.

      This isn’t an unthinking, unfeeling automaton at work, but instead a sentient creature. Show such a sentient creature kindness and love, and it will be returned.

    4. The cat, still on my lap, definitely has a personality. This morning, she seems subdued. I had to scold her, yesterday, for trying to use a guitar case as a scratching post, and I think that she’s still a bit taken aback by it. Just the word “BAD!” was enough to remind her that as important as she may be, she still has to obey.

      She’s a good cat, but somewhat excitable and can get carried away in her enthusiasm. But she’s also very sweet and affectionate.

    8. Give it a little time. There are always cats looking for a home. Today, my cat seems to be looking for a place to sleep. It is an uncharacteristically cloudy day, here in the Sonoran Desert of SE Arizona, and she has basically snoozed all day. She must be resting up from the 8 hours sleep she got last night, curled up on my bed. 🙂
