Wow! Where did today go?
It flew by.
I was involved in doing a number of things, and suddenly the day was gone. I had wanted to do more posts, but the time just whizzed by. I promise to do better tomorrow.
The plumber is coming tomorrow morning and oddly enough (of course) the drain is behaving quite well. I do not trust it to not revert to behaving badly.
They are really talking on the various weather channels that I check about a major storm shaping up. I would just as soon skip the whole thing and I certainly can do without these horrendously low temperatures. It was a whopping 3 degrees at 5 this morning.
My legs have all but atrophied from lack of exercise. It’s far too cold to walk outside.

Arkansas is expected to get snow and very low temperatures this weekend which means the grocery stores and Walmarts are packed out with people in a panic. Never realized New Jersey got that cold – yuck. You have a stairway in your apartment, walking up and down it is great exercise (yet kind of boring).
Sometimes I do that. Let’s hope the storm does not materialize.
I was surprised by how quickly today passed, too. Insurance renewal, this morning and poof, it was mid afternoon. We are actually expecting rain, from late Friday until early Sunday. We’ve had more rain this winter than I would expect for Arizona. Strangely, we’ve had a lot of weather I would expect of SoCal, which is to say dreary and damp.
Today actually warmed up to 29 by afternoon. It’s amazing how the body adjusts. It was much more comfortable.
They’ve backed off a bit on the rain-mageddon forecast for Friday and Saturday, and cancelled the rain forecast for Sunday. Hopefully, you’ll be spared the worst of that storm. Keep warm.
I will do my best.

As I write this, we are at -31C/-24F, with a wind chill of -43C/-45F
This put us at a merely orange “severe” conditions level, rather than the red “extreme” conditions level.
I am so done with winter.
Back in my Minneapolis days, we called that sun-tannin’ weather. 🙂 seriously, any time it gets below -20 F, it gets pretty unpleasant, if there is any wind involved. I’ve seen -31 F, a few times, and that is brutal.
That sounds horrendous.
We had a year when it was -31 F for a week or two, in Minneapolis, accompanied with ferocious winds that dropped the wind chill to -75 F. Just getting out of your car and walking 15 feet to the door of a building would chill you to the bone. The main north:south corridor, Minnesota Highway 100 was lined with semi trucks which simply could not operate. I’ll never forget that.
That is truly life-threatening. Would scare me to death.
That was 49 years ago, and I’m still able to recall it like it was yesterday. It was a strange year for weather; that same year the ski areas in Colorado were suffering due to the lack of snow.
That is why it is such incredible hubris to think that people can control the weather. It is too vast, with too many variables.
It’s huge, and also highly influenced by the sun. Weather, all weather, is caused by uneven heating of the earth’s surface. The sun is very stable, but not absolutely stable. We are near solar maximum right about now, but this 11 year solar cycle has been somewhat lacking in sunspots and a bit less stable than normal.
I do not remember a winter like this, ever.
While we haven’t had severe weather, this year has been unusual, even out here, where the weather is usually pretty easy to predict. Lots of gray skies, which very rarely occurs here, except for during summer monsoons. It actually became borderline pleasant, yesterday afternoon, with temps in the mid fifties and blue skies.
I don’t expect such good fortune today, however. It’s already 48 degrees at Chez Unknowable, but the tops of the clouds probably intersect the orbit of the moon. The sun rose not too long ago, and it’s very gray and clammy. As I’ve said many times, our weather this winter reminds me a lot of the Pacific coast, on the days that the Chamber of Commerce doesn’t care to publicize.
So you are having atypical weather also. This consistent, brutal cold will be with us for a while longer. It is really not so good.
I imagine that being relatively close to the coast has a moderating effect kn tekperatures, most of the time, but apparently not right now.
It usually does, but now it is really bitter cold.
