Interesting that there appear to be two different genetic sources for modern domestic cats. I still think that cats domesticated us, however.
I know you are right–they did.
Cats are actually important to civilization. Before modern grain storage methods had been developed, cats assisted greatly by keeping rodents away from stored grain. Dogs are vital to civilization, they herd livestock, they guard us, guard our children and guard our homes. Cats have a different role, but are equally important.
