Another Visit With Medicare

A few days ago I posted about getting a revised summary from Medicare regarding that atrociously high bill for Lee’s lab work, that they had nixed.  Well yesterday’s mail contained a statement from that same lab.  Same amount.

Now I was really angry.  I thought it would be a revised bill for around $136.  It was the same old $1,375.00 or thereabouts.

This was a ridiculous bill in the first place.  You do not do expensive lab work on a patient that is going into hospice.

I called Medicare this morning (yes, they work on Sundays) and we had a long talk.  Turns out that the lab is, indeed, at fault and they are NOT  supposed to bill me for denied claims.  I will have to call the lab tomorrow and tell them that I have spoken to Medicare and that Medicare will be contacting them.  The call from me will cover my butt, so that I do not get put in for collection, or anything like that.  That company’s billing department is really messed up.

The saga continues.

  1. Sounds all to familiar. Medicare inaccuracies can easily lead to very serious problems, so they should straighten up and fly right. I go to a well reputed dental practice, but routinely end up with billing irregularities. I’m actually thinking of dropping them.
