I think most people would do better if they could have their pets in the hospital.  As long as it was feasible.  They do a world of good and always make their owners feel better.

  1. Animals seem to sense when something is wrong, and will help, even if the only help they are able to offer is to simply stay nearby. Some years ago, I had surgery, that while not systemically serious, demanded a couple of weeks worth of limited activity and involved some pain. My cat stayed right next to me all day long, in the first few days, and then as I was able to be more active, she spent a little less time right next to me, but she never got too far away.
