‘A Mighty Fortress’

That’s the Coliseum in the background, of course–a symbol of the pagan Roman Empire, ruling the world by violence and superstition… and undone and converted by Jesus Christ and His servants.

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, by Martin Luther, sung by the kids from Fountainview Academy on their trip to Rome.

Extra Bonus Hymn,’All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name’

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name, one of my favorites in Sunday school–lyrics by Edward Perronet (in 1780), melody by James Ellor (in 1838), requested by Thewhiterabbit. This is another one I had in my head today.

Background sets by the hand of God the Creator.

By Request, ‘My Light and My Salvation’

I never heard this hymn before, but this is what I got when I tried to fill Elder Mike’s request for My Light and My Salvation. Lloyd Larson wrote the music and the lyrics, inspired by Psalm 27. Probably not the melody Mike wanted, but a nice hymn nonetheless.

‘Nothing But the Blood of Jesus’

We have another video from our friends and colleagues, Joshua and Jeremy Swanson–Nothing But the Blood of Jesus. It’s a good old-fashioned 19th century hymn which I had never heard before–really, just beautiful. Thank you, brothers.

‘To God Be the Glory’

No requests from readers yet today, so I’ll go with one of my favorite hymns–To God Be the Glory, sung by the Apostolic Christian Men’s Group. While you’re listening, check out the lyrics by Fanny Crosby. And the background sets by God the Father.

‘Leaning on the Everlasting Arms’

No hymn requests from readers yet, so I’ll just post one of my favorites–Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, by the Gordon Quartet. No studio, no microphines, just somebody’s living room–how do they do it? No musical instruments, either: just their voices.

‘Blessed Assurance’

Here’s one of the eight or nine thousand hymns written by Fanny Crosby, this one in 1873–Blessed Assurance, sung by the Harpeth Gospel Quartet. No hymn requests from any of the readers today, so I’m on my own.

John Bunyan’s Hymn (‘To Be a Pilgrim’)

I sort of accidentally posted this hymn this morning–To Be a Pilgrim, by John Bunyan, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band. I decided it wasn’t the kind of mistake I needed to correct. Maybe the Lord picked a hymn for us today.

‘Search Me, O God’

This hymn was inspired by Psalm 139–Search Me, O God, performed by Voices of Eden, in India. It’s more ambitious than their usual presentation, which probably means their Gospel message is prospering. For which we give thanks!

‘Morning Has Broken’

I don’t know about you, but the beauty of this hymn brings me near to tears every time I hear it–Morning Has Broken, sung here by Orla Fallon.

When God finished His work, he called it very good.

Somewhere in each and every one of us there is a longing for that Creation as it was.
