The purpose of the Bible is… why, to help you to get rich!
Here I was, thinking that the Holy Scriptures are there to teach us God’s ways, His will for us, and to help us to know Him better, and to know the truth… when all the time it was about making tons of money!
There is an alleged “pastor” out there selling “The Lost Investment Principles of Scripture.” He says he can teach you how to read the Bible as “a secret code for making money… a code buried deep within the Biblical text.”
No, I will not give you his name, nor provide a link to his website. That would be to give him free advertising.
So, if you were naively thinking that God’s Word is truth, the word of eternal life, the moral law, or anything like that–well, pilgrim, you missed the boat. Please disregard those tricky passages about it being easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to get into Heaven. That’s just in there to disguise the real business at hand, which is to heap up riches–or so says the “pastor.”

Prosperity Gospel fake preachers are becoming much too numerous these days. They prefer to line their coffers with the ‘offerings’ of the sheeple who would rather ‘name it and claim it’ than to know their Creator. Very sad. Most, if not all, of them surely started out with a love for God rather than for money. But woe to those who lead the blind sheep into the pit. No, I surely wouldn’t want to be in their shoes when they stand before the Judgment Seat of The King of kings and Lord of lords. It’s difficult to understand how the people listening to this garbage can actually believe it – and many times are self-righteous to boot!
I’ve actually seen clickbait ads about the Bible as a source of tips on how to lose weight. I suppose fasting in sackcloth and ashes might be such a method, hmmm? 🙂
Funny, though … like you, I always thought the Bible’s purpose was to communicate God’s word to us and prod us to “know Him, love Him, and serve Him in this world and be happy with Him in the next,” as the old Baltimore Catechism used to put it.
“Yessiree, brothers & sisters. In this world filled with sin, sorrow, degradation and suffering, the Sovereign of the Universe wants to be certain that you have the motorhome which is right for you.”
What rubbish!!! Where is the gospel of prosperity for the people in the Mideast whom have been executed for merely identifying as Christians? How about the people struggling with serious illness? How does the gospel of prosperity fit in when someone is watching one of their kids destroy themselves with drugs?
Drop in a tithe, close your eyes and then seize the next opportunity to take on even more debt. Do these people think that God is some sort of cosmic wishing well? On my recent road trip, I saw a lot of apparent prosperity, but I suspect that most of it was built on a mountain of debt. The bible does not encourage debt, and for good reason. When we assume a debt, we essentially become slaves to the debtor.
