‘Away in a Manger’ (Nat King Cole)

This is the melody for Away in a Manger most often sung here in America: and we’ve got Nat King Cole to sing it–a national treasure.

And now we have to hit the road: back this afternoon.

  1. His vocal on the old Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire is beyond description in its beauty. What a fine, lovely, gracious man, was Nat Cole. Beyond that, he was an exceptional jazz pianist, although his vocal career led to greater fame.

An uncle of mine had quite a life. He had some incredible high points in his career, and lived the high life at times, luxury cars, weekend trips to sporting events, etc. Of all his tales, more than the fancy cars or offices on the upper floors of tall buildings, the most impressive thing about him, from my perspective, was that he got to see Nat Cole live.
