Forget the psychology–these cats are having fun. And if some of these capers turn out not to be fun, after all… well, surely it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I think you’re right, sometimes they are just having feline fun. The affectionate little Siamese who sleeps next to me, and probably spends 4-6 hours of every day either on my lap or very nearby, will see me walk by, arch her back and act like something important is happening. She’s right, because she’s having fun and fun is important. I’ll pretend to chase her and she’ll flee, either to a bathtub, or possibly on top of some cupboards, where I’ll feign frustration because I can’t reach her. It usually ends with her coming over, sniffing my fingers, and then licking them. And a good time was had by all. 🙂
That’s cats for you. They do some pretty wild things at times.
